Financial Aid - $1,000,000
Four Winds*Westward Ho is proud of its financial aid program because it believes diversity among the campers enhances the experiences of all who attend. It actively recruits campers to apply for financial aid despite the fact that each year there is a waiting list of campers willing to pay full tuition. In 2005, the camp provided 68 full and partial tuition grants to young people with limited financial resources. The camp makes a three-year commitment to financial aid campers to ensure the continuity of their camp experience. The financial aid endowment consists of two parts, restricted endowment of $750,000 and Board designated endowment of $400,000. These funds cover approximately 25% of the tuition needs of campers. Increasing the fund by $1,000,000 will allow FW*WH to cover approximately 50% of tuition needs.

Preservation/Program - $500,000
Currently both capital improvements and program enhancements are funded out of the unrestricted endowment and the annual operating budget. Campaign for the Future contributions will be used to create a third endowment called Preservation/Program. This endowment will help camp to make physical improvements on a regular basis as well as adapting programming offerings as camper interests evolve.
Every year the Four Winds*Westward Ho Board of Trustees is faced with decisions on which major capital improvement projects to undertake and how to pay for them. The list of projects is always longer than the money available but priority is given to safety concerns and benefit to campers.
Items that top the list for program support include: maintaining Carlyn and other boats in the sailing program, improving and expanding the out of camp “trips” program, and offering professional artists in residence. These programs make camp the special place it is and the board takes very seriously its charge to sustain and expand them.
