The Staff Experience

We are exceptionally proud of our staff and we aim to provide them with an enriching, exciting and rewarding experience.

Each year we hire responsible, caring, talented young men and women to watch over, guide, and teach our campers. We ask them to lead by example, to nurture growth and compassion and to ignite curiosity and joy in the most spontaneous and creative ways possible.

Many staff members are former campers or leadership trainees who, inspired by their own camp experiences, have become leaders, caretakers, and teachers in their own communities. Many staff members, on the other hand, are brand new to the Four Winds community and come from all corners of the world. One way or another, they discover our magical island and become part of the camp family. We think it is vital to the health and balance of our community to have both new and returning staff members work together to create fresh and evolving dynamics from year to year.

To some, working at camp might seem like a breezy summer job — a fun, carefree way to spend the warmer months, with people your own age, in a beautiful island environment. In certain ways, this is true. Camp itself is beautiful, and you will get to work with some of the most talented, creative, and caring individuals you’ve ever met. It’s likely you’ll make friendships that will last your entire life. But, it’s important to remember that working at a summer camp is a tremendous amount of work and responsibility, and believe it or not, it is a real job! We hire people who understand this. We set our bar very high, and our expectation is that you come to camp with the intention of creating a meaningful, fun, safe, and inspiring experience for the campers. In your charge will be the precious sons and daughters of trusting parents, and we are so fortunate to have such an established and talented base of applicants year after year.

You will work long hours, you will be challenged, and you will learn as much as you teach. You will become emotionally invested in many aspects of camp life and you will feel rewarded for everything you put in, and then some. There’s a reason our counselors return year after year, and why there is hardly a dry eye when their campers get on the boats to go home. Our staff believe in the camp experience, and they truly understand the importance of what we do for children.

However you found us, we are glad you did! Take a look at the positions available, and let us know how and where you could fit into the camp community this summer.
